Residents in Playa Flamenca may have noticed something unusual happening on a large piece of land in recent weeks. Earth-moving machinery has appeared on a sizeable plot, prompting plenty of speculation about exactly what is being built.
According to reports published in June 2026, the answer is a new cricket facility - and potentially a very substantial one.
Where is the proposed cricket ground?
The development is reported to be on a plot of more than 28,000 square metres in Playa Flamenca, between Calle Arco Iris and Calle Victoria.
The land is already reported to have permission for use as a sports facility, although the arrival of machinery appears to have caught many local residents by surprise.

Orihuela Costa, however, has an exceptionally international population. Cricket has strong followings in countries including the UK, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Australia, and supporters of the Playa Flamenca project believe a dedicated facility could reflect that international community.
There is also already an established cricket presence elsewhere on the Costa Blanca and in southeastern Spain.

Why are residents talking about it?
