A New Era for Torrevieja’s Port
Torrevieja, long known for its salt lakes, beaches, and relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, is undergoing one of the most ambitious waterfront transformations on Spain’s Costa Blanca. The redevelopment of its marina and port area marks a turning point for the city - shifting it from a traditional seaside town into a modern coastal destination.
At the heart of this change is the complete regeneration of the port, designed to reconnect the city with the sea while creating a vibrant hub for tourism, leisure, and investment.
The New Marina & Leisure Complex

The centerpiece of the redevelopment is the Paseo del Mar leisure centre, a large-scale project set to open in spring 2026.
Spanning over 20,000 square metres, the complex will feature:
- Restaurants and cafés overlooking the marina
- Retail spaces and lifestyle outlets
- A multiplex cinema
- A new bowling alley
- Modern entertainment venues
Around 80% of the units are already leased, showing strong commercial confidence before opening.
This development is not just about tourism - it’s about creating a year-round social and economic hub that attracts both residents and visitors.
Urban Regeneration Beyond the Marina
The marina is only one piece of a much wider transformation. The overall port redevelopment includes:
- A new elevated promenade linking the city more directly to the sea
- Upgrades to the Levante breakwater and seafront connections
- Renovation of docks and piers
- A new fish market with a public square
- Multi-use open spaces for events and community activities
In addition, infrastructure improvements such as new access roads, pedestrian ramps, and landscaped public areas are reshaping how people move through and experience the waterfront.
Investment, Delays, and Final Push
Like many large coastal projects, the redevelopment has faced delays - mainly due to coordination between private construction and public infrastructure works throughout 2024 and 2025.
However, with investment exceeding €50 million, the project is now in its final phase, with businesses already preparing to open their doors.
The result is a carefully planned, long-term transformation rather than a quick facelift.
A Boost for Tourism & Property Market
Torrevieja has already experienced rapid growth over the past decades, driven largely by tourism and real estate development.
The new marina development is expected to:
- Increase visitor numbers year-round
- Raise property values in surrounding areas
- Attract international investors and hospitality brands
- Strengthen Torrevieja’s position against nearby hotspots like Alicante and Benidorm
Combined with new events—such as the relocation of major festivals to the city - the area is positioning itself as a cultural and leisure destination, not just a beach resort.
What It Means for the Future
The transformation of Torrevieja’s marina is more than an infrastructure project - it’s a redefinition of the city’s identity.
By blending modern leisure facilities with public spaces and improved urban design, the redevelopment creates a waterfront that is:
- More accessible
- More vibrant
- More economically dynamic
As the doors open in 2026, Torrevieja is set to unveil a new chapter - one where the marina becomes the beating heart of the city.
